Coolmunda Dam — deferral of maintenance works

Sunwater began maintenance works at Coolmunda Dam in July 2022 to ensure the ongoing reliability of the gates in managing outflows from the dam.  

Due to current delays in material availability across the construction industry, Sunwater has made the decision to delay the project due to the upcoming La Niña wet season.

The pause on these maintenance works will have no impact to customer’s water supply or to recreation access at the dam. Coolmunda Dam’s gates are, and will continue to be, regularly assessed and monitored as part of standard dam maintenance activities. The gates are deemed operationally sound for the approaching wet season.

During the wet season, Coolmunda Dam will be operated in line with its standard operating procedures, using the dam’s spillway gates to safely pass water once the dam’s storage level exceeds 100 per cent.

Sunwater will communicate with customers and the community after this wet season about when it plans to restart the maintenance works at Coolmunda Dam.
