Water Pricing Review

The Queensland Competition Authority’s (QCA) final recommendations from its 2020-24 irrigation price investigation have been delivered to the Queensland Government, and are now available online: www.qca.org.au/project/rural-water/irrigation-price-investigations/

We will continue to engage with our customers through Irrigator Advisory Committee meetings and our Customer Reference Groups, to assist customers understand the implications of the QCA’s final recommendations for their schemes. Electricity cost pass through trial – Bundaberg Water Supply Scheme

Sunwater is currently consulting with Bundaberg Water Supply Scheme customers to determine whether there is widespread support for the introduction of an electricity cost pass-through trial.

Small group teleconference workshops are scheduled between 14 and 18 April 2020, focused on the following topics:

  • Workshop 1 – How it works
  • Workshop 2 – Potential impacts
  • Workshop 3 – KPIs and review process
  • Workshop 4 – ‘No one is worse off’

Each workshop/teleconference is expected to run for 30 minutes.

Attendees will receive notes and other materials before each session. To get the most from each workshop, you will need to have reviewed the material in advance.

Background

The QCA has completed its investigation into water prices to apply to Sunwater’s irrigation customers from 1 July 2020 to 30 June 2024. The irrigation price review allowed for a thorough examination of our costs and provided an opportunity for stakeholders to present their views on issues affecting them before the QCA recommended future irrigation water prices to the Queensland Government.

To assist the QCA in its review, we provided a submission that detailed the costs of delivering services to irrigation customers and the revenues we require to recover these costs. Our submission was developed in consultation with customer representatives and was provided to the QCA on 6 November 2018 (see above).

Sunwater has worked closely with customers, and developed two new proposals for the 2021/24 price period: an access charge and electricity cost estimation methodology and pass-through mechanism. We have developed fact sheets on each of these initiatives (see below).
