Sunwater Balancing and Offstream Storages

Sunwater Balancing and Offstream Storages

What is a balancing storage? Storage within a distribution system and/or pipeline that is utilised as a pool of water to balance inflows and outflows. This could be to match supply with demand, or balance pumping inflows and outflows. The smaller balancing storages are generally constructed from concrete, and are above ground, medium to large balancing storages are usually constructed with an earth and rockfill embankment and can be standalone or on a natural depression/ watercourse.
What is an offstream storage? Offstream storages are generally constructed from earth and rockfill outside the bed and banks of the water course and are utilised to store water by pumping from the adjacent water course during run-off events.
