Burdekin Falls Dam hazard alert

Burdekin Falls Dam spilling in February 2020

Burdekin Falls Dam is currently at spilling (100.6% capacity).

At this level, a temporary exclusion zone has been activated upstream of the dam wall and we urge all lake users to make themselves aware of the zone and remain outside it at all times.

Due to recent inflows, lake conditions may have changed and additional submerged or semi-submerged hazards may be visible at or just below the surface of the water. Sunwater reminds all recreational users and visitors to the dam to be aware of submerged hazards and exercise caution at all times.

Burdekin Falls Dam Road directly below the spillway will remain closed while outflows continue.

Safety remains our priority and we urge the public to read and follow the signs and adhere to conditions. If you are taking a boat out on the dam, please ensure your vessel is in good condition, properly equipped, maintained and operated in a safe manner.

Further boating safety information is available on Maritime Safety Queensland’s website: www.msq.qld.gov.au/Safety
