Burdekin Falls Dam – spill event

Update 6 – 26 December 2022, 6.30am

Burdekin Falls Dam – boat ramp closed 

The boat ramp at Burdekin Falls Dam is now closed until further notice. The section of Burdekin Falls Dam Road directly below the spillway remains closed while outflows occur. Update 5 – 22 December 2022, 10.30am

The Burdekin Falls Dam boat ramp has reopened from 10am today, Thursday 22 December 2022.

Boat operators are reminded to read and obey the signs, look for submerged and floating hazards, boat to conditions and stay away from the dam wall by at least 200 metres, as marked by the buoy line, or as signed.

Any rainfall in the catchment causing the dam’s storage level to increase may lead to the boat ramp closing again.

Update 4 – 18 December 2022, 7.35am

The boat ramp at Burdekin Falls Dam is now closed until further notice. The section of Burdekin Falls Dam Road directly below the spillway remains closed while outflows occur. Update 3 – 15 December 2022, 10.05am

Burdekin Falls Dam is currently at 103.8% capacity and the volume of excess water flowing over the spillway is decreasing.

If downstream of the dam, expect continued river flows.

Update 1 – 29 November 2022, 5.10 pm

Burdekin Falls Dam is currently at 98.1% capacity and is expected to spill excess water in the next 24 hours due to rainfall in the catchment.

As is standard practice before the dam begins spilling water, Sunwater will close the section of Burdekin Falls Dam Road directly below the spillway at 19:00 tonight (29/11/2022).This section of the road will remain closed while outflows occur.
