Sunwater welcomes back community at Kinchant Dam Open Day

Mackay, Isaac and Whitsunday residents can find out all about one of their most important water assets at this weekend’s Kinchant Dam Open Day.

After a break from in-person events due to COVID-19, Sunwater is looking forward to meeting community members at the event, which will be held at Lake Kinchant on Saturday 19 June.

Located 35 kilometres west of Mackay, the dam is a popular destination for boating, camping and fishing. 

The open day provides a great opportunity for people to learn about how dams work; staying safe on and around water storages; and how to prepare for weather events and potential emergencies.

The family-friendly day will bring together valued community services including the Queensland State Emergency Services, Queensland Ambulance and Maritime Safety.

Live music, food trucks and a free sausage sizzle, as well as complimentary kids’ activities in the form of a jumping castle and face painting will keep attendees well-fed and entertained on the day.

Working with local councils and community groups, our open days aim to create an inclusive and relaxed atmosphere while imparting useful information to educate attendees.

Sunwater’s local Kinchant Dam team will be on hand to share stories about the dam’s history and chat with attendees about the critical role dams and waterways play in regional economies.

The event follows Sunwater’s successful Cania Dam Open Day, which took place on Saturday 29 May 2021 and welcomed more than 200 people from Monto, Gladstone, Bundaberg and everywhere in between.
