Apprenticeships

We believe in delivering water for prosperity for our customers in regional Queensland. Our dams are designed to hold and supply water to customers for irrigation, to keep industry operating and to provide drinking water. This involves the safe and effective operation and maintenance of our water infrastructure assets, including:

  • 19 dams
  • 64 weirs and barrages
  • 595 kilometres of water channel
  • 70 major pumping stations
  • 1951 kilometres of pipeline
  • six water treatment plants.

Our infrastructure is also an important part of many communities not only storing water for customer use but playing valuable recreational and amenity roles.

The role of our operations team is diverse and can include:

  • assessing the water levels in the storages
  • assessing water orders on hand and anticipated weather conditions and determining the necessary release schedules and settings
  • releasing water to fill water orders, replenish downstream storages or meet environmental requirements
  • monitoring flows and levels in locations to maintain awareness of possible stream rises that may impact the system
  • visually checking channel levels and the main off-takes
  • adjusting gates
  • undertaking maintenance activities.
