The Board of Sunwater has announced the appointment of Mr James Benjamin as its new Chief Executive Officer.
Sunwater Chair Jeff Seeney said Mr Benjamin brings extensive leadership experience across the utilities, infrastructure and water sectors, managing diverse stakeholder interests, driving operational efficiencies, and enhanced returns from capital investments.
Mr Benjamin’s professional career spans leadership roles in both the public and private sectors. He has served as CEO of resources company North West Phosphate and leading regional water infrastructure proponent Bowen River Utilities, Head of Strategic Finance with Urban Utilities, has held executive positions in the Queensland Government’s Energy and Water Departments and, most recently, was a key advisor to Queensland Government Ministers.
“James has a proven track record leading complex infrastructure projects and working closely with government, water customers, industry and regional communities,” Mr Seeney said.
“His experience and leadership make him an excellent choice to lead Sunwater as we continue delivering safe, reliable and affordable water services for our customers and long-term water security for Queensland.”
Mr Seeney also thanked David Hourigan for his recent service as Interim Chief Executive Officer.
“On behalf of the Board, I commend David for his leadership and commitment during the transition period,” he said.
“David has proven a steady hand in his stewardship of the organisation and has ensured Sunwater remains focused on serving our customers and communities across Queensland.”
Mr Benjamin said he was honoured to join Sunwater and looked forward to working with employees, customers and stakeholders to build on the organisation’s strong foundations and continue delivering value for Queensland’s regional water users.
“As someone with a strong interest in enduring, purpose-driven companies, I’m proud to join an iconic Queensland organisation, lead a team focused on excellence, serving its customers and driving economic growth in regional communities,” Mr Benjamin said.
