The Project

The Nullinga Dam and Mareeba Dimbulah Water Supply Scheme Improvements Project has been proposed as a future water supply to serve growing agricultural demand in Mareeba and surrounding areas as well as future urban demand in Cairns. The project will stimulate irrigated agriculture in the region by supplementing existing supplies from Tinaroo Falls Dam and utilising the existing Mareeba-Dimbulah Water Supply Scheme.

What’s involved?

  • Sunwater is working with Building Queensland to develop a detailed business case to investigate the project’s economic and financial viability
  • The community and stakeholders will be consulted throughout the business case process to investigate demand from potential customers, develop the dam design and consider potential environmental, social and project delivery risks.

Major milestones

  • The detailed business case is anticipated to be completed by mid-2019 and will be presented to the Queensland Government and the Commonwealth Government for consideration.
