Our history

Sunwater has been the lifeblood of water delivery to regional Queensland for nearly 100 years.

From our humble beginnings as the Queensland Irrigation & Water Supply Commission to the entity now known as Sunwater, we have built infrastructure to successfully supply more than 5000 agriculture, urban and industrial customers, delivering more than 1,300,000ML of water each year.

Sunwater has taken on many roles throughout its history including:

  • developing a sustainable management framework for the planning, allocation and use of water and other resources to regional Queensland
  • building a regulatory framework for service providers covering asset management, customer standards and dam safety, and
  • establishing a governance regime for statutory authorities that provide water services.

We will continue to operate 365 days a year to deliver water for the prosperity of our customers as we understand the essential role they play in regional growth and prosperity.

Our history

The flow-on effect

Today, Sunwater has a proud history of providing water services to our customers.

The benefits of the water we supply our agriculture, urban and industrial customers flow through to help regional communities to prosper.

Balancing our water services with the environment

We take our corporate social responsibility seriously by implementing responsible environmental management controls.

We work together with our customers to make the most of the available water supply and to ensure it doesn’t go to waste.

Sunwater understands the changing energy environment and are looking at innovative ways we can incorporate renewables into our operations to reduce our energy footprint and be more efficient.
