Sunwater re-opens additional recreation area facilities

Sunwater is re-opening additional facilities at its recreation areas, dams, lakes and weirs in time for the weekend.

Members of the public will be able to access Sunwater-managed toilets, shower blocks and BBQ facilities in day use areas from midday Friday 15 May.

This decision follows the Queensland Government’s announcement to open up more recreation options at dams and fossicking grounds.

This is in addition to Sunwater-owned and operated boat ramps, picnic areas, look-outs, and lakes (for swimming, boating, fishing and other recreation activities), which re-opened on 1 May.

Check with your local council for updates on the facilities they own and manage at Sunwater sites.

Signage will be in place at each site to keep you informed.

Visitors to these sites will be subject to meeting current social distancing guidelines and Sunwater also encourages people to bring their own supplies and observe good hygiene practices.

Those intending to undertake travel must adhere to the requirement to stay within 150 kilometres of home, or 500 kilometres in outback locations.

Campgrounds remain closed, however, Sunwater’s intention is to re-open camping on 12 June in line with the Queensland Government’s roadmap to easing restrictions. We will keep the community updated on any further developments.

Sunwater is listening to the advice of the Queensland Government and health authorities and we encourage the community to do so as well.
