Sunwater recreation areas, dams, lakes and weirs to re-open

Man fishing at dam

From 11.59pm Friday 1 May 2020, Sunwater recreation areas, dams, lakes and weirs will be open for day use. Members of the public are welcome to visit our sites to have a picnic or conduct activities such as swimming, boating, skiing and fishing.

This decision follows the Queensland Government’s announcement to ease stay-at-home restrictions resulting from the COVID-19 public health crisis.

Current social distancing guidelines and the requirement to stay within 50 kilometres of their home will apply to anyone visiting these sites. Please note, camping is not permitted.

For those returning to our storages for recreation, please read the signs, be aware of your surroundings and enjoy our waterways safely.

For more information please view the announcement made by the Minister for Natural Resources Dr Anthony Lynham.
