Sunwater has completed its submission for the Office of the Inspector-General Emergency Management (IGEM) on the 2019 Monsoon Trough Rainfall and Flood Review.

The independent review into the preparedness and response to the flood events in north Queensland will assess five core areas, with Sunwater’s submission focusing on one area – ‘dam operations, in particular for the Ross River Dam, and associated emergency procedures’ (Terms of Reference).

Sunwater CEO Nicole Hollows said Sunwater has prepared a very thorough and robust submission which clearly outlines all our obligations as operator for the Ross River Dam and the steps we undertook during the flood event.

“Our role and focus throughout the flood event was to ensure the dam was managed safely and in line with the direction of our customer and dam owner Townsville City Council,” Ms Hollows said.

“As with previous IGEM reviews, this is an opportunity for Sunwater – as with all other agencies involved – to identify lessons that can be learned and ways we can strive to improve systems, processes or communications.

“Our thoughts and support remain with the people of Townsville as they recover and rebuild their homes, infrastructure and heal from this unprecedented event.”
