Free dam wall walking tours, entertainment and information on how to prepare for extreme weather this summer are all on offer this Saturday 24 November, at the Coolmunda Dam Open Day.

Hosted by Sunwater at the Coolmunda Dam picnic area (1) just off Coolmunda Access Road between 10am to 2pm, the open day is a great opportunity for families to enjoy a fun and educational day out.

Key highlights will include free dam wall walking tours, leaving on the hour from 10:30am, and an on-water rescue demonstration by the local State Emergency Service.

Sunwater Area Manager John Kelly said Goondiwindi Regional Council, the State Emergency Service, Rural Fire Service and Sunwater will give practical advice on preparing your family and home for extreme weather.

“Locals can learn about how Sunwater works together with council and key organisations to provide information in the lead up to and during extreme weather events,” he said.

Sunwater will share knowledge about how dams work, understanding flood risk and the easy steps people can take to plan, prepare and keep their family safe. Free dam wall walking tours guided by local Sunwater staff will provide an up-close look at dam operations and an overview of the dam’s rich history.

The entire family will be able to enjoy plenty of fun activities including market stalls, face painting, balloon twisting and a jumping castle.

Refreshments will be available for purchase including cold drinks and a sausage sizzle (provided by Inglewood Lions Club) and a coffee van.

The open day will be held weather permitting. Any cancellations or changes to the program will be communicated on the Sunwater Facebook page: www.facebook.com/sunwater

The Coolmunda Dam Open Day is part of ‘Get Ready Queensland’ – a Queensland Government initiative to build community awareness, understanding and preparedness to deal with natural disasters.
