Water Engineering Consultancy Services

Engineering of irrigation systems

SunWater has designed and implemented all of Queensland's major water supply schemes, which provide water to some 5,500 irrigation customers who produce cotton, sugarcane, grain, fodder and agricultural crops. We have experience in conceptual planning, final design and construction management covering all aspects of water supply infrastructure including channels, drains, roadworks and other associated structures.

Civil planning and design

Our expert staff can provide you with a comprehensive suite of civil design services including investigations, preliminary and/or detailed designs and specifications for dams, weirs, pipelines, pumping stations and associated infrastructure. Our services in this area have been professionally developed and our skills fine-tuned over many years of developing infrastructure for the water industry.

Project/construction management

SunWater can provide you with project and construction management services. We can help you design and build a variety of dam, weir, and barrage styles as well as other water infrastructure to meet your business needs. SunWater also develops, monitors and controls detailed financial and time programs and maintains project-costing systems for your projects.

Hydraulic modelling

SunWater has an inhouse Hydraulics Laboratory which enables detailed physical hydraulic modelling. SunWater’s laboratory staff specialise in testing hydraulic structures such as spillways, energy dissipaters, tidal barrages and weirs, storm drainage structures, pump station intakes, irrigation control structures and conduits. The laboratory can undertake total studies or, alternatively, provide the facilities and staff to build and operate the model under the direction of the client.

Dam safety and hydrological studies

SunWater has expertise in the hydrology and hydraulics of surface water and groundwater resources. Surface water assessments offered by SunWater include water resources system simulation, flood estimation and river hydraulic modelling.

Fishway design

At SunWater, we have made significant advances in fishway design. Our fishways facilitate the migration of fish past water storages, so that the lifecycle of fish populations are not adversely affected. SunWater has extensively tested, used and evaluated vertical slot fish ladders for use on structures up to six metres high, and fish locks for use on higher structures.

Geotechnical services

SunWater offers a complete geological investigation service including engineering geological mapping, geophysical studies and sub-surface investigations. We also have the capabilities to offer onsite and laboratory testing of foundation materials and exploration testing of construction materials.

Survey and mapping services

Our surveyors are specialists in the water industry and can cater for all our clients' water-related survey and mapping needs. Our numerous services in this area include floodplain mapping, dam and weir site mapping, pipeline surveys and land acquisition surveys among many others.
