Emerald irrigators receive further increase to water allocations
SunWater has increased announced allocations for Emerald irrigators from 34% to 67% thanks to more than 155,000 megalitres flowing into Fairbairn Dam in the past three weeks.
Widespread wet weather across the Central Queensland highlands has continued to provide more than 8600 megalitres on average per day into the storage bringing the dam to 27.8% capacity.
SunWater Corporate Strategy Manager Tom Vanderbyl said Fairbairn Dam was currently storing 353213 megalitres, prompting the water provider to review announced allocations for water users within the Nogoa Mackenzie Water Supply Scheme.
In the last 24 hours the dam has received 11,415 megalitres lifting the capacity by 0.9%.
“This is certainly more good news for water users in the scheme and will ensure they move into 2008 with some renewed optimism after witnessing what can only be described as a very dry year in 2007,” Mr Vanderbyl said.
