Get ready for storm season at Coolmunda open day

Inglewood residents will have a unique opportunity to see Coolmunda Dam from a different angle and learn how to prepare for the coming storm season at a community fun day this Saturday 14 October from 10am to 2pm.

An initiative of SunWater, the Coolmunda Dam Open Day will feature dam walking tours and displays to illustrate how important it is to be prepared for storms and floods this summer.

SunWater General Manager South Robert Lewis said the open day was a chance for locals to enjoy a fun day out with the family while learning how to prepare for the storm season.

“Representatives from SunWater, Goondiwindi Regional Council and the State Emergency Service will be attending to give practical advice on how to prepare for extreme weather.

“It’s a great opportunity to learn about SunWater’s community notifications and how they integrate with the region’s disaster management plans – and a rare chance to see the dam wall close up on a guided walking tour.

“Extreme weather is part of our lives as Queenslanders, and the aim of this event is to encourage the local community to better understand their flood risk and the easy steps they can take to plan, prepare and keep their family safe.”

The Inglewood Lion’s Club will be putting on a sausage sizzle and there will be live music and fun family activities near the dam wall including free face painting, balloon twisting, a jumping castle and fairy floss for the children.

“I’d encourage families to come along for an informative and fun day whilst enjoying this beautiful part of the world,” Mr Lewis said.

The Coolmunda Dam Open Day is part of ‘Get Ready Queensland’ Week - a Queensland Government initiative to build community awareness, understanding and preparedness to deal with natural disasters.

SunWater customers are also encouraged to come and discuss billing or account enquiries with the customer support team.

Note: The Coolmunda Dam Open Day will be held weather permitting. Cancellations or changes to the program will be communicated as soon as possible via SunWater’s Facebook page:
