A fun day out at Beardmore Dam to prepare for storm season

A free community event will be held at E.J. Beardmore Dam this Saturday 28 October to raise awareness about keeping safe this storm season, while enjoying family entertainment and activities.

The event is a joint initiative of the Balonne Shire Council and SunWater and supports the ‘Get Ready Queensland’ campaign, aimed at helping families prepare for extreme weather this summer.

Held between 10.00am to 2.00pm, the E.J. Beardmore Dam Open Day will feature walking tours of the dam wall, informative displays, a free BBQ.

Best of all, local families can enjoy some outdoor fun, with free live music, face painting, a jumping castle and free fairy floss for the kids.

SunWater General Manager Operations South Rob Lewis said the day was a chance for locals to enjoy a day out at the dam and learn more on how to prepare for the coming storm season.

"It is a great opportunity to learn about SunWater dam outflow notifications and a rare chance to see the dam wall close up on a guided walking tour.

"We’re looking forward to making a meaningful contribution to the community by hosting an informative and fun community event," Mr Lewis said.

Balonne Shire Council Mayor, Cr Richard Marsh said the event is important for ensuring local families are prepared and informed for summer disasters like floods.

"Extreme weather is part of our lives as Queenslanders and the aim of this event is to encourage the community to better understand their flood risk and the easy steps they can take to plan, prepare and keep their family safe," he said.

"Our disaster management teams take their role seriously and preparation is crucial to effectively coordinate the community’s response to disasters that may come our way.

"I’d encourage families to come along and enjoy the BBQ or even bring a picnic lunch and hopefully take away some extra information about the dam and emergency preparedness," Cr Marsh said.

SunWater customers are encouraged to come and discuss billing or account enquiries with the customer support team.

The E.J. Beardmore Dam Open Day will be held on Saturday 28 October 2017 from 10.00am to 2.00pm at the recreation area, off Thungaby Road.

Note: The E.J. Beardmore Dam Open Day will be held weather permitting. Cancellations or changes to the program will be communicated as soon as possible on the SunWater Facebook page:
