Overview
The Woleebee Creek to Glebe Weir Pipeline project is a combined pipeline approximately 120km in length that will transport treated CSG water from the QGC Queensland Curtis LNG (QCLNG) project for beneficial use by mining and irrigation customers along the pipeline route and in the Dawson Valley Water Supply Scheme.
If approved, the common user pipeline will be the first stage in a program of works to meet emergent demand for bulk water supply, supplying up to 36,500ML per annum to commercial and irrigation customers.
It is expected that the additional water supply will be welcomed by agricultural and commercial mining users along the pipeline route, who will have the opportunity to access this water for irrigation and production purposes.
Once all approvals are in place, it is expected that the pipeline will be operational in mid 2013.
Project Background
Construction of the pipeline will be just one part of a Beneficial Use Scheme that looks to provide treated CSG water for beneficial use along the pipeline and within the same boundaries as the Dawson Valley Water Supply Scheme for the life of QGC's LNG project.
Water will be treated by QGC to the water quality standard determined by the Department of Environment and Resource Management (DERM), taking into consideration SunWater's environmental requirements and public health.
A Recycled Water Management Plan (RWMP) will also be prepared in partnership with all parties including local government to ensure that safeguards are in place for drinking water supplies. This plan will be reviewed and approved by DERM before any water is discharged into the Dawson Valley Water Supply Scheme.
Benefits
The benefits of the Woleebee Creek to Glebe Weir Pipeline project include:
- Beneficial use of CSG water produced during the extraction of gas from coal seams
- The provision of additional water supply for agricultural and potential industrial use
- Local business opportunities in accordance with the State Government's Local Industry Policy, where possible during construction
Environment
SunWater is in the process of obtaining all environmental and planning approvals necessary to construct the pipeline and supply water to customers for beneficial use.
Cultural heritage
SunWater has completed a Cultural Heritage Management Plan (CHMP) which has been signed off by the relevant parties for the Glebe Weir to Wandoan section of the pipeline.
A separate CHMP for the remainder of the pipeline between Wandoan and Woleebee Creek will be developed based on cultural heritage assessments.
Land access
SunWater has begun preliminary consultation with landholders along the pipeline route regarding land access protocols.
SunWater will have a Construction Management Plan in place to address construction impacts such as dust, noise, weed control and truck movement. This will be finalised when a contractor is appointed.
Our role
SunWater will build, own, operate and maintain the Woleebee Creek to Glebe Weir Pipeline.
