The Nullinga Dam and Mareeba Dimbulah Water Supply Scheme Improvements Project has been proposed as a future water supply to serve growing urban demand in Cairns. The project will stimulate irrigated agriculture in the region, by supplementing existing supplies.
The proposed Nullinga Dam site is located on the Walsh River in the Atherton Tablelands.
SunWater is working with Building Queensland to develop a detailed business case to investigate the project’s economic and financial viability. Throughout the business case process, we will consult with the community and stakeholders to investigate demand from potential customers, develop the dam design, and consider potential environmental, social and project delivery risks.
The detailed business case is anticipated to be completed by mid-2019 and will be presented to the Queensland Government and the Commonwealth Government for consideration.
