Students ready to be inspired by leading music educators

Ten high school students from regional Queensland will receive a world-class music education this week thanks to the SunWater Scholarships.

Almost 70 students from various regional locations in Queensland are visiting Brisbane this week to participate in the Southern Cross Soloists (SXS) Spring Music School.

SunWater’s Chief Executive, Peter Boettcher said SunWater is very proud to offer the scholarships to regional students giving them the opportunity to develop their music skills.

“SunWater strongly believes that access to high-quality music education should not be restricted by rural locations.

The ten regional students to receive the SunWater Scholarships are:

  • Michelle Mueller, Stanthorpe, Cello
  • Victor Churilov, Rockhampton, Flute
  • Peyton Crofton, Bucasia, Clarinet  
  • Ciaran Huang-Ryan, Bundaberg,  Trumpet
  • Talia-Joy Peachey, Jaggan, Violin
  • Hannah Sommerville, Ravensborne, Cello
  • Harrison Kempster, Richmond, Trumpet
  • Shaileigh Thompson, Bucca, Violin
  • Florence Cappler-Shillington, North Ward, Violin
  • Julia Ramsbotham, Bundaberg, Violin 

Mr Boettcher said the week-long intensive music school will be hosted by highly regarded players from the Southern Cross Soloists and is aimed at positively impacting the student’s music making experiences.

“I wish the students an enjoyable learning experience this week so they can return safely to the regions with enhanced music skills”, he said.

SunWater has sponsored the SXS Music School for the past nine years enabling talented Queensland students to attend the intense study week.
