Safe removal of asbestos at Tinaroo Falls Dam

21 Dec 2015

SunWater has engaged asbestos removal contractors to collect and remove asbestos found on the foreshore at Tinaroo Falls Dam early this week.

SunWater’s Northern Service Manager James Mummery said the current low dam levels recently revealed that a significant amount of asbestos has been dumped into the dam.

"While it is particularly disappointing that a member of the community has used this beautiful location to dump their waste, as responsible dam managers SunWater has arranged for its safe removal.

"While there is no direct safety impact to the community, a small area on the foreshore will be closed to avoid public access while the asbestos is removed.

"It is timely to remind the community and visitors to keep the area tidy by disposing of their rubbish in bins or take it with them when they leave.

"If rubbish enters our water supply scheme it can compromise the quality of the water and harm the natural environment.
