Members of Bundaberg’s Saxon Archery Club have hit the bullseye and will be able to continue their sport after SunWater extended the use of its land for another five years.

Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett said the move confirmed the use of state-owned land for the club’s 105 members until 2021.

"Saxon Archery Club relies on a SunWater channel road to gain access to its facilities, which are on land owned by the water supply company," Mr Bennett said.

"The club contacted SunWater and my office regarding uncertainty about long term access for its members, as their licence was due to expire in 2016.

"The licence extension is a big win for our community, using a common sense approach to benefit club members now and well into the future.

"Local sporting groups are the backbone of our community, providing opportunities for locals to be active, socialise and enjoy the great outdoors.

"The licence would not be affected by any potential transfers of SunWater’s channel schemes under proposed Local Management Arrangements."

Water Supply Minister Mark McArdle said Stephen Bennett was a tireless advocate for the Bundaberg community and had worked hard to deliver a positive outcome for local archery enthusiasts.
