SunWater Burdekin Blokes competition: Vote for Malcolm Green!

12 Aug 2013

Malcolm Green, Apprentice Electrician at Sunwater’s Clare Depot, is a major contender in the SunWater Burdekin Blokes competition, one of the key fundraising activities in the 2013 Coutts Commercial Tavern Burdekin Water Festival.

The three-month long iconic event, which celebrates the Burdekin’s abundant water supply, is one of the longest running festivals in Queensland, with the very first having been held in 1958.

Since the festivities kicked off in July, Malcolm has been very proactive, organising a fundraising event and a float for the street parade being held in September, as well as attending the various Festival fundraising events and activities.

The 22-year-old, who has lived in the Burdekin area for the past decade, said he was honoured to be involved in the competition and to represent SunWater, a long-term sponsor of the Festival.

You can show your support for Malcolm by texting "Malcolm" to the following telephone number: 0439 608 928.

Voting closes on Thursday, 5 September at midnight and the winner will be announced at the Senior Ambassador and Burdekin Bloke Crowning Evening on Friday, 6 September.

The voting will close at 12:00am on the Thursday night, and the winner will be announced. The Coutts Commercial Tavern Burdekin Water Festival program of events kicks off with Tastes of the Burdekin in July - an outdoor food festival with an international flavour. The festivities culminate in a street parade and mardi gras in Ayr's Central Business District on Saturday, 7 September. For more information, please visit
