Cania Dam Water Releases to Commence

21 Nov 2012

SunWater is planning water releases from Cania Dam in December to assist with groundwater recharge throughout the Three Moon Creek Area.

SunWater Area Operation Manager Central, Nev Wogandt said the releases are scheduled to commence on 3 December 2012 for an estimated period of three weeks.

“The purpose of the release is to assist with groundwater recharge and throughout the Three Moon Creek area,” Mr Wogandt said.

“Cania Dam is currently storing 87,200ML which is 98.5% of its capacity.”

“The water releases are expected to be no more that a maximum volume of 7,500 megatlitres” he said.

SunWater consulted with the local Irrigation Advisory Committee representing it’s customers and the community before planning for the releases.

“With the dam at such high levels, any significant rainfall will cause the dam to overtop the spillway. In the event that this occurred, the water release will be suspended, Mr Wogandt said.

SunWater would like to remind all residents downstream of Cania Dam to be mindful of crossings downstream of dam in the event of the dam spilling.
