SunWater seeks expressions of interest

19 Sep 2011

SunWater, Queensland’s leading bulk water infrastructure developer and manager, is currently seeking expressions of interest for water supply from the proposed Nathan Dam and Pipeline project.

Expected to begin construction in 2015, the proposed Dam and Pipeline will provide the Surat Basin and Dawson-Callide region of Central Queensland with secure supply of around 66,000 megalitres of High Priority water annually.

SunWater’s General Manager of Infrastructure Development, Mr Mark Browne said that SunWater has established itself as a key partner for the booming Queensland mining industry by anticipating and planning for industrial water supply needs before they become critical.

“The Nathan Dam and Pipeline project will underpin both existing and new resources sector projects in central Queensland,” Mr Browne said.

“SunWater has been actively investigating strategic water supply infrastructure that will deliver secure  water supply solutions for new mining developments and provide established miners with reliable water supplies for their operations.”

Having seen the extensive growth in the Bowen and Galilee Basins, Mr Browne expects that demand for water supplies from the proposed Nathan Dam and Pipeline will be strong with commercial mining companies in the region keen to shore up water security.

“In the Bowen and Galilee basins, 84% of the available water allocations from SunWater’s Connors River Dam project were snapped up by mining operators within days of them hitting the market,” Mr Browne said.

“We expect to see a similar response in the Surat Basin and Dawson Valley, with companies looking to secure their future water needs via the Nathan Dam and Pipeline project.”

Expressions of Interest for water supply are currently being sought and interested parties should register via phone on (+61 7) 3120 0148, email at or on the SunWater website at

Applications close Friday, 21 October 2011.
