Private sector funding explored for Connors River Dam & Pipelines Project

07 Sep 2011

SunWater supports the Queensland Government’s decision to investigate private sector funding arrangements for the Connors River Dam, Connors to Moranbah Pipeline and Moranbah to Alpha Pipeline project.

SunWater is committed to the delivery of the project with planning continuing as scheduled and construction expected to start in March 2012 following satisfaction of commercial conditions precedent.

The $1.9 billion projects include the Connors River Dam, a 133 kilometre pipeline from the dam to Moranbah and a 265 kilometre pipeline from Moranbah to Alpha.

Construction of the dam and pipelines will support Central Queensland’s coal industry future, provide long-term benefits for the region’s economy, and secure a reliable water supply for the townships of Moranbah, Alpha and Nebo.

SunWater CEO, Peter Boettcher said the Premier’s announcement has opened the door to allow exploration of alternative funding options.

“We see this decision as a positive indicator of the project’s commercial attractiveness,” he said.

“SunWater remains the proponent, and all project milestones, deliverables and activities will continue as planned,” he said.
