Connors River Dam & Pipelines Project on track

29 Sep 2011

SunWater has reached another milestone in the development of the Connors River Dam to Moranbah pipeline with the selection of a preferred construction tenderer.

SunWater announced that John Holland Qld Ltd was the preferred tenderer for construction and delivery of the Connors River Dam to Moranbah Pipeline. The 133km pipeline is part of the $1.1 billion Connors River Dam and Pipeline Project.

The project has been identified as a solution in providing water security to the Bowen Basin resources industry and townships of Moranbah and Nebo.

SunWater Chief Executive Peter Boettcher said preferred tenderer selection signified an important milestone in the project’s development.

“As preferred tenderer, John Holland Queensland will work alongside SunWater over a six month period to finalise project design and approvals,” he said.

“It is expected that all project contracts will be awarded when the final investment decision is made by SunWater’s Board in March next year.”

Mr Boettcher said the Connors River Dam and Pipeline Project was on schedule with construction expected to start in March 2012 and commissioning by early 2014.

SunWater General Manager Mark Browne said SunWater used an Early Tenderer Involvement (ETI) process to select John Holland Qld Ltd as the preferred tenderer.

“The ETI process involved two competing firms using their industry experience to provide constructability input into the pipeline design and to generate market tested construction cost estimates,” he said.

SunWater is looking forward to working with the John Holland team to deliver this project.
