Community Consultation back on track for Nathan Dam Project

29 Jun 2010

Community consultation for the Nathan Dam and Pipeline Project has recommenced with SunWater and community members meeting in Taroom last week.

SunWater Project Manager Peter MacTaggart said community consultation was an important part of the Nathan Dam and Pipeline Project’s environmental impact statement (EIS) and he was pleased the organisation could now restart discussions with the project’s Community Liaison Group (CLG).

Mr MacTaggart said the project’s CLG included a cross section of stakeholders, including council, agriculture, environmental, community, local business, and landholder representatives.

Mr MacTaggart said topics discussed at the Taroom CLG meeting included an update on key environmental issues associated with the project, the design and size of the proposed dam, and the potential for treated coal seam gas water to be integrated into the pipeline element of the project.

“Holding CLG meetings is the most efficient way SunWater can provide project information to representative community members about the project and for those members to in turn provide us with information that they would like considered during our EIS investigations,” Mr MacTaggart said.

“CLG meetings also provide an excellent communication conduit to the rest of the community and will complement the public information sessions to be run throughout the region over the coming months,” he said.

Mr MacTaggart said people wanting further information on the project can visit or call the project team on 1800 158 651.
