Mareeba graduate ready to carve out an engineering career with SunWater

27 Mar 2008

Working on some of Queensland’s most important water infrastructure projects will be just one of the many engineering experiences in the pipeline for Mareeba High School graduate Kerrie Carucci who was recently inducted into SunWater’s Cadetship Program.

Kerrie was among a group of only seven Queensland students successfully selected to take part in the program, which is designed to offer on-the-job experience alongside formal engineering education.

Over the next four years Kerrie will be mentored by experienced engineers and be a part of development teams working on key water projects that will underpin the growth of Queensland.

SunWater Regional Manager Charlie Martens said he was pleased Mareeba was included in the latest intake of cadets.

“It’s great to see one of our local high school students has been selected to take part in this program and I am confident she is now on the path of a very rewarding engineering career,” Mr Martens said.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for Kerrie to learn and earn while completing their SunWater-funded tertiary education and it’s all part of our ongoing commitment to regional communities,” he said.

Mr Martens said the program’s new recruits would be located throughout regional Queensland during their cadetship so they could experience different elements of the engineering profession.

Kerrie said she was already working on a wide variety of projects under the guidance of engineering professionals.

“I’m working within a team investigating the development of water infrastructure for farms, towns and industry and this experience will provide an excellent platform for my ongoing Associate Engineering Degree studies,” Kerrie said.

“It’s a great program to be a part of and I encourage other Mareeba High School graduates keen on gaining an engineering career to find out more about the cadet program,’ she said.

Mr Martens said high school graduates could find out more about the program on www.sunwater.com or by calling SunWater Human Resources Advisor Jodie Rapp on (07) 3120 0117.
